Along the hidden street of Eisenhower in Greenhills lies a cozy place to chill and relax! I crashed in last night with my goodie goodie good friends Honey and Khris and yeah, we had fun!
From a small eating place in a parking lot, it was transformed into a real resto bar and was named, Copper Grill. The establishment started their operations in March of 2009, and we had the pleasure of meeting and dining with one of the restaurant owners, Dennis Mariano. Being a food guru and restaurateur, Dennis, pulled his food-magic together and built this tasteful wine and dine spot along with his other business partners. The place is currently managed by Ken Tan, my friend Honey’s good buddy and I am glad he took us to this awesome resto to give our taste buds a treat!
Copper Grill is a semi-fine dining garden restaurant with a competitive price for its target market. As I looked through the menu, I was delighted to find a wide array of unique food choices. Although most of the entrees are Filipino-inspired, there are a lot of dishes that are influenced by popular foreign cuisine, created the Copper-way.
Aside from the usual barbeque and tokwa’t baboy, they also serve steaks, pasta and pizza that is, of course best paired with ice-cold BEER (hail the beer ‘ye!) But it does not end there, the house’s seared tuna, also known as Aji Tataki is an entry in their menu that everyone must try! Basically, their vast options in the menu was inspired by customers and friends.
Last night we were offered to try some of their best-sellers. Let’s start with my personal favorite, THE Adobo Wrap.
The perfect merienda or lunch or dinner or whatever. I was still craving for this one when I woke this morning. The Adobo Wrap hangover! It’s adobo wrapped in a crepe-like scrambled egg and tortilla wrapper, drizzled with reduced adobo sauce. I like the crispiness of the tortilla when you take your first bite then rest just melts in your mouth after. It’s a unique twist to the traditional adobo.
Adobo Wrap – Php180.00
No, this isn’t the Great Wall of China. This is Copper Grill’s rendition of Tokwa’t Baboy. Both the tofu and the pork are fried. The part of the pork that was used here is the same part that everyone is using for sisig. I like this for the chunky chops of the ingredients. Very well concocted with a sauce that’s a little sweet. This is the best tokwa’t baboy I’ve ever had! And I’m not exaggerating. Thumbs Up! * ram grabs beer*
Tokwa’t baboy – Php165.00
There are potato balls and there are Corned Spuds. These are potato balls stuffed with corned beef and melted Swiss and Cheddar cheese. It can be compared to the Japanese korokke but with cheese. Lots of it! Yum!
Corned Spuds – Php180.00
As their menu says, “It’s the best tasting barbeque ever!” The meat is very tender and it’s perfect with either rice or beer! No wonder my friends like it so much. Kinda addictive! Sshh! For its price of Php99.00, it’s super worth it.
The Aji Tataki -- “Aji” meaning tuna and “Tataki” meaning thin slices. This is seared yellow fin tuna with wasabi – mirin dip. Be cautious with the wasabi dip though. It’s kinda strong. Just a few drops will do the trick. The crispy nori strips on top compliments the fish and the wasabi very well. It’s like a new twist on eating sashimi. You can feel the texture of the cooked lightly seasoned tuna and the fresh sashimi inside. Served with baked potatoes with sour cream and parmesan cheese on the side and a gorgeous salad with asparagus, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and parmesan cheese. How to describe the whole plate in one word? Heavenly.
Aji Tataki – Php330.00
All in all, dining in Copper Grill was a wonderful experience. A splendid feast for the eyes and an extraordinary treat to the sense of taste and the tummy as well! Super super thanks to Dennis Mariano and Ken Tan for having us. Cheers! Bottoms up!
